Obituary for Susan W. Laurent

Susan Waguespack Laurent went to Heaven on Monday, June 12, 2023. She will be missed by her husband Duane, of Lewisville, TX; daughter, Sarah Williams and son-in-law Kevin Williams, of Denton, TX; nephews David and Christopher Waguespack; niece Shirah Waguespack; and many beloved cousins, grand-nephews, and nieces.

Born in New Orleans, LA, she resided in Lewisville, TX, for most of her adult life. She volunteered at several libraries in the Lewisville school system. She loved history, family reunions, and genealogy, and as a 42-year member of the German Acadian Coast Historical and Genealogical Society, she published many articles in the society's Les Voyageurs magazine and helped numerous other researchers with their family research. She also enjoyed bus tours and cruises, visiting France, England, Ireland, many islands in the Caribbean, Alaska, and Hawaii.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a visitation and services at Mulkey-Mason Funeral Home, 740 S. Edmonds Lane, Lewisville, TX, Thursday, June 22nd with the visitation beginning at 10:00 am and service at 11:00 am, followed by interment at Roselawn Memorial Park, 3801 Roselawn Dr, Denton, TX. In lieu of flowers, please contribute to either the Amyloidosis Foundation (amyloidosis.org) or the UTSouthwestern Medical Center (UTSouthwestern.edu).

The Future of www.doubledurr.com

Susan was my wife of almost 49 years, mother to our daughter, a remarkable lady, and genealogist for more than 42 years. Some of you never met Susan, and that is a shame. Others will fondly recall speaking with her at the various Durr reunions she attended through the years. And still others will remember what a font of Durr genealogical information she was. No matter what the circumstances, Susan was always willing to talk about the Durr families and asked nothing in return except a few minutes of your time.

Along with many other Durr researchers, Susan spent uncounted hours researching the Durr families and eventually wanted to share that information with the world. Since she had no skills in website design, she called on me to help her build www.doubledurr.com. The content of the website and the overall look-and-feel are definitely Susan's. For example, she wanted a website that was simple, that loaded very quickly, and that had no images that might detract from the content. She even picked the background which is meant to look like parchment paper. My only contribution is the technical know-how to turn her vision into reality.

To honor Susan's memory, I intend to keep this website active for the forseeable future. However, because I am NOT directly related to any Durrs, I do not believe I should be involved in keeping it open indefinitely. I will soon begin searching for a Durr relative to take over administration of this website. If you, or someone you know, is a Durr descendent with ANY experience in website design (it's really not hard... you do NOT need MUCH experience!), please contact me at Duane@DoubleDurr.com and we can discuss the matter further.
